So I have been experimenting with my mini-album scrapbook covers lately to prepare for classes - I wanted to see if a wood veneer would be better, faster, easier for class than teaching the painted wood technique - I'm still up in the air about faster or easier...
Veneer:
Cut
Stain
Attach to chipboard
Sand
Polyurethane
Painted Wood Technique:
Cut
Paint - wood design (video in the works)
Attach to chipboard
Distress (sand)
Modge podge
Same amount of steps - but the wood feels/sound pretty cool... I'll do a side-by-side when the album is competed.
I purchased a 2x8 roll at our local specialty wood shop, (it is normally $22 for the 2x4 roll, but it had a blemish, and I asked what discount they would give if I took the whole thing off their hands - yup made it look I was doing them a favor... anywho I got the whole piece for $30).

I can cut it with old scissors (the sewing scissors that the family has
used to cut paper I mentioned before -HAHA). I cut it into manageable
pieces for the Accucut & Sizzix Big Shot Pro dies.
I can use the blemished area for tree trunks on the Family Tree mini-album scrapbook found here :)
